Detox Over – Bring On The Fun Part

Posted

Well, I’ve had a stinking cold, I’ve lost £3k on the stock market, I’ve gone through yet another re-organisation at M&S, had several wake-up calls in the middle of the night on call, it’s a year since my best holiday in years – it feels like a good time to end the detox.

Beer is back in my life!

But first, a list of things that I’ve achieved.

James Is Boom

I’ve lost a fairly staggering 9kg of weight since Christmas. Whether I can keep it off for a month, let alone the rest of the year or the rest of my life is another matter. But let’s celebrate success. Cheers!

Not only have I not been drinking, but I’ve mostly cut out chocolate and cake, along with eating food before I sleep.

I’ve started looking for flats. I’d go so far to say that I know where I want to live down to the actual block of flats – though whether they’ll like my offer is another question.

I’ve booked a holiday to Malta. Financially I kind of wish I hadn’t, but I need some sunshine. It’ll rain all weekend, won’t it? Though the weather models currently look like I might get proper warmth.

I decided to quit my job, then decided to wait until I got a job, had some interviews, realised that I am technically missing in a few key areas, got pissed off with rejection, now I’m excited to work at M&S for the rest of the year. Or until they next challenge why I am refusing to stack shelves 7 days a year.

I started learning computer science basics. Forgotten everything I’ve learnt, but hey.

I’ve been to theatre 5 times, plus two art exhibitions – the Hockney (see cover photo) is fire.

Had a few very good meals, such as at Imad’s Syrian Kitchen and L’antica De Pizzeria Michele.

Joined a new team at M&S on secondment for 6 weeks or so, and been told that “I’m smashing it”. Well, of course I am.

Not bad for 76 days.

Apart from feeling grotty right now, I’m much more back in the game. Just need a bit of sunshine, a holiday, to buy a flat and the stock market to recover. See ya later, sobriety.
